Winter Time Short and Sweet Sessions!

During the chilly months I limit my portrait sessions to indoors only. Indoor sessions are tricky because of the limited light so I temporarily convert my living room into a studio complete with a backdrop and studio lighting. You can go to my signup genius page to look at available sessions. Right now I have New Years Sessions and Valentines Sessions planned. Short and Sweet Sessions are $100 and under 30 minutes. I will add an early Spring Short and Sweet as well. In April I will start outdoor sessions again! Outdoor sessions are $165 and last between 30-45 minutes. I will not be posting those sessions until the weather starts to warm...

Picture Perfect

Fall is always my busiest season, everyone wants their family portraits done in time for the annual Holiday card.  It’s also the loveliest time of year for outdoor portraits thanks to the beautiful Virginia Fall backdrop. At least three times this weekend I received email requests asking “what should we wear”? The most important factor is that you feel comfortable. If kids (and /or hubby) are irritable with scratchy sweaters, then PLEASE don’t force one over their head! I personally LOVE color or simple pops of color. I feel like it makes your portrait POP!  Photography flattens us, we go from 3 dimensional to 1.  So, to compensate I suggest a few things (my personal “style”): 1.) Layers and accessories add interest. (scarves, jewelry, head bands, ties, etc) 2.) Coordinating outfits, not matching! 3.) Did I mention color or pops of color? 4.) Make sure everyone’s faces are sparkling clean!   Check eyes and nose for gunky stuff.  It shows up in close ups! 5.)No eating on the way to the shoot and please do not bring food or milk to the shoot.  Feel free to have snacks stowed away for after the shoot.  But the little milk mustaches, not so cute in a portrait and the crumbs of cheerios all over the dress- not so fun to edit out later! I am including some photos to help you, the link to my Pinterest Page for “Picture Perfect” pins  as well as a great article for getting ready for your...

summer love

As a child, summer was my favorite season. I loved the long days, riding my bike for hours and swimming with friends.  The plains of Texas could reach the triple digits during the day, but the evenings would be cool and comfortable. As the temperature dropped the warm ground cooled off and there was a sweet, earthy smell that to this day makes me feel so peaceful. Summer time is still special to me, but as a mom it has taken on a whole new purpose. It’s vital to me that my boys experience the serenity and wonder that is connected to summer. I want to ensure that as a family we create precious lifelong memories.  My boys work hard during the school year- my oldest ended the year with all A’s and an impressive GPA, my youngest made the honor roll every quarter and played 3 sports.  My job is to reward them for their hard work.  They both have earned lazy, carefree days and silly afternoons of putt- putt and ice cream. There’s a beautiful documemory called 18 Summers. Not that I am endorsing a trip to Idaho (although it sure looks AWESOME!), but I am suggesting that as parents it’s our job to slow down and make a special effort to create life long memories for our children this time of year. My oldest turns 17 in 3 weeks. Next summer will be Freshman orientation, shopping for his dorm, moving and last minute preparations.  It will also be a summer filled with precious moments as it could easily be the last real summer break we...
